The British people initially came to India for trade, but they soon decided to maximise their profits. They made the decision to conquer India in order to increase their wealth and profits. The British government gave their full support for this. The political climate in India at the time gave the conqueror the upper hand—not everywhere was like that, but the majority of places were. Indians were made slaves to the British for 200 years as a result of this. We always study history, not only to learn a few things but also to realise how the problems between us become fertiliser for others to subdue us. A great example of this is how the British subjugated India for 200 years.
